Paintings by:

BILL COLE

Reception with Artist is
Friday, August 6th 6-9pm

A native of western North Carolina, Bill began painting relatively late in life after retiring from the Air Force in 1995.  Primarily a self taught artist, he studied watercolor painting in Paris while he and his wife were living there in 1995.  Bill’s latest series of paintings are of barns in oil and acrylic.  In this series, Bill uses the simple shapes of barns as the format for exploring the interplay of colors and textures.

“I want to use colors and shapes to bring a feeling of happiness to a viewer, even if it’s just for a brief moment.  Like most artists, I began by painting in as realistic of an image as possible.  Most of the time, those type of paintings show no more emotion than a vacation photograph.  But when you begin to push colors and see the subject as merely a means of expression, you can begin to move your paintings toward true art.”

Bill’s artistic inspirations are drawn from the post impressionists, Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth and other American realists.  He lives in Waynesville, NC with his wife, Jane, and his 70 pound Airedale, Buddy.
